Het Vlock Casteel is very much a family owned and run experience and this is clearly apparent when you book a tasting or tour on the farm. The family is passionate about their products and have a strong philosophy of interacting directly with visitors and making them feel most welcome.
It is because of this philosophy that you will find your Wine tasting hosted by the owner of the estate, Johan Vlok, a Viticulturalist and Wine Maker and your Olive Oil tasting hosted by his wife Ansie Vlok, a Food Scientist. Both are graduates of the University of Stellenbosch and speak with authority and passion about their products and the farm.
Tours can be booked throughout the year for groups of between 10 and 70 people. Olive oil and wine tasting tours last around 2 hours and include comprehensive tasting notes and advice on uses of the various olive oils and food combinations for the wines. After the tour, guests are taken into the shop and given an opportunity to taste a wide variety of other products.
Between early January and the end of March it is table grape season and during these months, a table grape tour and tasting can be booked. This is often combined with the olive oil tasting. This tour takes visitors into the vineyards and also into the packing shed to experience the whole process from growth to table. These tours are hosted by Ansie and occasionally by their son Johan Vlok Jr who is currently doing his post-graduate degree in viticulture and wine making at the University of Stellenbosch . It is important to note that these tours last 3 hours when combined with the olive oil tasting tours.
Tours cost R30 per person and booking is essential. Prices are subject to annual review.
